1968 Chevy Chevelle 396SS – Chevrolet’s Chevelle is one of the tried-and-true workhorses of the muscle car/collectible car world. Originally introduced in 1964, a new body style debuted for the 1968 model year and became so popular that it endured with updates for five years. Among these second-generation models, the small-displacement Chevelles are among the most popular GM A-bodies ever produced, which makes them a good choice if you’re looking for a low-priced collector car endowed with the same DNA as its high-priced sibling. Today, Chevelles roll into car shows by the dozen, roar down drag strips every weekend, can still be found stacked in junkyards and, after nearly 40 years, muscle car enthusiasts still dream of parking a big-block Chevelle SS in their garages. Due to the broad interchangeability of Chevrolet drivetrain components, it’s possible to swap any Mark IV big-block or first-generation small-block into a Chevelle. More recently, the aftermarket, as well as GM Performance, have made swapping LS-series GM engines into the Chevelle a plug-and-play proposition as well. Of course, if you can afford one, or were smart enough to buy one when they were affordable, an original big-block Chevelle makes a great investment as there never seems to be a shortage of suitors lining up to buy them–a trend that will continue for years to come.
Straight out of 30 year ownership, this beauty is now available for a savy investor to add to their garage. What started life as a true 396SS has now been upgraded to a 496ci V8 pushing out 750hp! While the cowl hood and mini-tubs subtly let you know she means business, the overall look of this Chevelle SS is very original. This frame-off restored sleeper will definitely sneak up on you. If you really want to fool the competition we can include a color-matched factory SS hood. For daily driving the bucket seats, overdrive transmission, and Vintage A/C provide the perfect level of comfort behind the wheel. Did we mention this Chevelle has only 84k miles from new? You will be hard pressed to find another ’68 Chevelle SS this nice and you definitely can’t build it’s twin for only $59k anymore.
