1983 GMC Jimmy – The\u00a0Chevrolet K5 Blazer\u00a0is a\u00a0full-size<\/a>\u00a0sport-utility vehicle<\/a>\u00a0that was built by\u00a0General Motors<\/a>. GM’s smallest full-size SUV, it is part of the\u00a0Chevrolet C\/K<\/a>\u00a0truck family. Introduced to the\u00a0Chevrolet<\/a>\u00a0line for the 1969\u00a0model year<\/a>, the K5 Blazer was replaced for 1995 by the\u00a0Chevrolet Tahoe<\/a>. In 1970,\u00a0GMC<\/a>\u00a0introduced its own model of the truck, called the\u00a0Jimmy, which was discontinued in 1991 and replaced by the\u00a0Yukon<\/a>. The “Jimmy” name was chosen to reflect how\u00a0GM\u00a0may sound in a similar manner to how\u00a0Jeep<\/a><\/i> was thought to be a pronunciation of GP in the competing market. Both were short-wheelbase<\/a>\u00a0trucks and available with either rear- or\u00a0four-wheel drive<\/a>.\u00a0The K5 Blazer and Jimmy had “full convertible” removable tops until 1975. For 1976, GM introduced a half-cab design that was less prone to leaks and slightly safer in a roll-over. These half cabs had the convertible top begin a few inches behind the driver\/passenger doors and run back to the tailgate.<\/p>\n
