1996 Chevy Impala SS – When the Impala name returned, it once again did so as a concept car. Unveiled at the 1992 Detroit Auto Show, the Impala SS was a murdered-out Caprice with a lowered suspension and an 8.2-liter V-8. The Impala SS went into production for the 1994 model year, effectively a civilian version of the 9C1 police package with a 260-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8. It was heralded by the famous “Lord Vader, your car is ready” ad campaign and remained in production through the 1996 model year. The last year saw minor interior alterations, with the digital speedometer being replaced by an analog one, along with a tachometer. The shifter was moved from the column to the center console, and the engine was given an OBD-II computer control system (the camshaft was reground to adjust for the new computer).

This Impala SS has an impressive history which, coupled with its pristine condition and low miles, make it the nicest example you will find. When this vehicle originally arrived at the local Chevrolet dealership here in Conroe, TX in 1996, the owner of the dealership decided to keep it. He was obviously aware it would be the final year of production and the rarest of the three available colors. The dealership owner used it sparingly (apprx 1k miles/ year) until 2005 and then parked it for the next 10 years inside the dealership. In 2015 and local customer who knew of the vehicle and had tried to purchase it for years was finally allowed to take ownership (after making MULTIPLE attempts). Because it had never been sold to the public, it had remained on it’s original MSO until 2015. This local gentleman became the first and only owner in that same years. It was then only driven apprx 500 miles to and from local area car shows. He recently decided to liquidate his small collection of vehicles and we were fortunate enough to add it to our inventory. In the last 6 months this Impala SS has received a new fuel pump, battery, and tires.
