1989 Ford Mustang Saleen – Though Ford itself didn’t do a 25th-birthday Mustang, Steve Saleen did, introducing his SSC on April 17, 1989. Based in California, Saleen was a veteran  SCCA Trans-Am and Formula Atlantic racer. He also had a business-school degree — and several Shelby Mustangs. Encouraged by the H.O. V-8’s 1982 revival, he decided to follow in Shelby’s footsteps and make stock Mustangs into personal high-performance cars. For the first five years he focused on everything but the powertrain to avoid costs involved with emissions certification for a tuned engine.

Very much in line with what Saleen had in mind when he modified early Mustangs, this Saleen tribute was built to impress both cosmetically and mechanically. Just one glance and you know right away this is no normal Mustang convertible. A quick turn of the key and the exhaust notes will convince you this is a true American sports car. The odometer shows 106k miles but the build has only seen roughly 5,500 miles since completion.
