1980 Chevy C30 Silverado – 454 V8, Auto, 2WD, Crew Cab, Camper Special, Dually, A/C, Build Sheet, Service Records, 1 Family Owned AZ Truck w/ Only 76k Miles!
1980 Chevy C30 Silverado – An all-new clean sheet redesign of General Motors’ Chevrolet and GMC brand C/K-Series pickups debuted in mid-1972 for the 1973 model year. Development of the new third-generation trucks began in 1968 with vehicle components undergoing simulated testing on computers before the first prototype pickups were even built for real world testing. The redesign was revolutionary in appearance at the time, particularly the cab, departing from typical American pickup truck designs of the era. Aside from being near twins, the Chevrolet and GMC pickups looked like nothing else on the road. The third-generation trucks are colloquially known as the “Square-body” or “Box-body” generation. GM’s official “Rounded-Line” moniker highlighted the pickup’s rounded styling cues that were incorporated into the design. GM’s design engineers fashioned the “Rounded-line” exterior in an effort to help improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency, using wind tunnel technology to help them sculpt the body. Other design traits include sleek sculpted body work, an aerodynamic cab with steep windshield rake, and a unique available hidden radio antenna embedded into the windshield glass. The wheelbase length was extended to 117.5 in for the short wheelbase pickups, and 131.5 in for the long wheelbase pickups. A new dual rear wheel option called “Big Dooley” was introduced on one-ton pickups, along with a new Crew Cab option on the 164.5 in wheelbase. An optional Elimipitch camper was made available for the Big Dooley. Crew Cabs were available on C30 pickup and chassis cab, and K20 chassis cab models in two versions: a “3+3” which seated up to six occupants and “bonus cab” which deleted the rear seat and added rear lockable storage in its place. The fuel tank was moved from the cab to the outside of the frame, and a dual tank option was available which brought fuel capacity to 40 US gallons. 1980 was the first year that a cassette tape player could be purchased, along with a CB radio.
While we agree that custom trucks are awesome, we know that most buyers want to customize them in their own unique ways. The best start to any build is a truck that is rust free, has a known history, is highly original, and would be great to own even if you never spent a penny on customization. If you agree … you’re in luck! What we are offering here today is a single family owned, rust free, AZ Chevy C30. When this Silverado was purchased new at Sands Chevrolet in Glendale, AZ is was very nicely equipped with all the cool 80’s gear. Some cool features available in 1980 included a sliding rear window, dual fuel tanks, tachometer, comfort tilt steering, glide-out spare tire, and an AM/FM/Cassette with built-in Cobra CB Radio that still works like new! The owners used the truck sparingly to transport their dirt bikes inside a gutted camper shell for most of life. So while this beautiful Chevy turns 40 this year, she wears it well with under 76k documented miles since new! Over the last year we have put a lot of time and money into getting her ready for a new home and making sure everything works like it should. The only mechanical areas that we needed to address were a new a/c compressor, fuel pump and a steering box. Most of the work we did was cosmetic and the C30 now features brand new or restored; windshield, fender badging, front tires, hubcaps, cab trim, tail lights, headliner, carpet, door panels, and dash. While the Santa Fe Tan is now very flat, the white portions on the truck shine like new. Additional features and options include; 454 V8, Auto, 2WD, 4.56 Rear Axle, Power Steering & Brakes, Crew Cab, Camper Special, Dual Rear Wheels, Cold A/C, Chrome Bumpers, Chrome Grill, Chrome Mirrors, Cruise Control, Rubber Floormats, Running Boards, Soft Ray Tinted Glass, Tow Package, Tire Tools, 16″ Factory Hubcaps, and thick 235/85/R16 Tires. It even has SMOG equipment for the CA buyers. Documentation includes the original Build Sheet, Service Records, and the original Owners Manual. If you are looking for an exceptional C30 to drive daily or as the base to an exceptional custom build, you don’t want to let this one get away!
