Description

1978 Dodge D300 Adventurer SE – In it’s third generation, a redesign of the D series for the 1972 model year introduced a more rounded look. This redesign, which lasted until 1980 with minor changes, included new features such as an independent front suspension and pocketed taillights (the distinctive reverse-on-top lights were recessed to .25 in (6.4 mm) to avoid damage in loading docks and confined spaces). Styling cues, such as the scalloped hood and rounded fender wells, were similar to the rounded, smooth look of the 1971 Plymouth Satellite. These trucks were built with a considerable amount of galvanized steel to resist rust and corrosion, making them very durable.

While exact production numbers of Dodge trucks in the late 70’s don’t exist, we do know that this truck is rare in many ways. First of all it’s a crew cab dually,  with factory ac, tilt, cruise control, tach, volt meter & vacuum gauge options, and the Adventurer SE Package. This truck is a very nice survivor with just under 54k miles. This D300 retains its original 440 ci big block and 727 load flight transmission. When the truck was new, the original owner had a shop in Phoenix change the smog carb out to a Carter AFB and had a crane cam installed because he was not happy with the smog carb and performance compared to his last 440. Truck has been an Arizona truck its whole life until we purchased it and brought it to TX. It had already been fitted with aluminum rims from a 2018 Dodge, installed by the previous owner, because he didn’t want to deal with the original 16.5 wheels. The Dodge had a camper shell most of it’s life and therefore the bed is in excellent shape. Upon arrival to TX we had the upper portion of the paint redone due to sun fading. We also fully restored the front / rear seats and installed new carpet. A complete list of features and options includes; 440 V8, Auto, 2WD, A/C, Crew Cab, Dually, Bright Tan Metallic & Light Tan Two-Tone Paint, Altimeter, Chrome Grill, Chrome Bumpers, Chrome Mirrors, Clearance Lights, Cruise Control, Dash Mat, Owners Manual, Power Steering & Brakes, Factory AM/FM Radio, Sliding Rear Window, Tilt Steering, Tinted Glass, Vent Windows, 17″ 8-Lug Outlaw Wheels, and Thick Nexen AT 235/80 R17 Tires! This Dodge D300 is an outstanding example and with the options and miles, we’d confidently argue its the nicest example on the market.
