Description

1965 Ford Mustang Fastback 2+2 – If the Volkswagen Beetle was the most significant car of the twentieth century with 21.5 million sold, and the Ford Model T was second with 14.7 million produced, the Ford Mustang must occupy third place. For one thing, it’s still in production in the 21st century, with nine million built to date, but it’s also right up there with the other two in terms of cultural significance. Lee Iacocca’s brainchild was a brilliant combination of humble Ford Falcon underpinnings with a long-hood, short deck coupe that still looks just right. Equipped with bucket seats and also available as a convertible for only $2,557, it could be as humble as a 101 hp 170 cid, 6-cylinder grocery-getter, or as fast as a 220 bhp 289 cid V-8. Starting in June 1964, a hi-performance 271 bhp version of the 289 was introduced, equipped with a 4-speed, quick steering and special handling package. TV ads teased the model three weeks before launch and 22,000 orders were taken the first day. By mid-August when the 1965 model year usually began, 120,000 Mustangs had already been sold. A 2+2 fastback joined the lineup in September for $2,553 to complete the lineup, and sales for the 1965 model year would total 680,989 units.

Even as the years pass by, it is not uncommon to see an early Mustang as just about every weekend car show around the US. After all, thousands were made and none are more than 60 years old. But the well cared for survivors and the custom creations that are a little more illusive are what really get us excited! This incredible ’65 Fastback arrived at TX T&C and immediately garnished attention on the showroom floor. This Fastback is the end product of an exceptional painter partnering with a high-end interior shop to create a show quality Mustang. The Mustang has changed hands only twice since being completed apprx 12 years ago but is still as fresh as the day it was completed. It has seen under 9k miles of driving to and from shows since completion. Every part of this Mustang was restored during its frame-on restorations and a few modern upgrades were added to enhance the driving experience. A complete list of features and options includes; 289 V8, Edelbrock Valve Covers & Air Cleaner, MSD Ignition, Auto, Wilwood 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, Dakota Digital Gauges, Vintage A/C, Chrome Grill/Mirrors/Bumpers, Cloth Floormats, Grant Steering Wheel, JVC Radio, Sony Speakers, Tinted Glass, Spare Tire, 16″ Centerline Rims, and Thick Sentury Touring 215/60/R16 Tires! If your collection is in need of an extremally nice Mustang, this ’65 Fastback checks all the boxes!
