1999 Plymouth Prowler – The 1997 Plymouth Prowler was the division’s first stand-alone model since the 1969 Barracuda, and it tested a theory: would Americans buy factory hot rods? The concept debuted in 1993 along with the Dodge Viper, as Chrysler was introducing its cab-forward L-H sedans models. By 1997, Chrysler was back in the black and it was time to play. The Prowler had been tweaked to meet crash and safety requirements, but it was still remarkably true to its original 1930-something roadster concept, mostly built of aluminum and molded compounds and weighing 2883 pounds. It was powered by Chrysler’s 3.5-liter SOHC V-6 engine that was rated at 218 hp and shared with the 300M. A 0-60 sprint came up in 7.2 seconds, but was later improved in 1999 to 5.9 seconds as the engine’s power was bumped to 253 hp. The Plymouth Prowler was only available with an automatic transmission, and the V-6 engine note is described as incredibly smooth by hot rod fans. The interiors are well-finished with bright colors rounding off the package. The dash features standard Chrysler gauges.

There are some interesting stats that differential Prowlers from one another and make some more valuable to collectors. Plymouth only produced 8,532 Prowlers in total with only 3,921 being built in 1999. Of those, only 1,008 hit the showrooms in their most desirable color …. Prowler Purple! This low mile example is one of the best you can find and still look brand new 21 years after its introduction. This Prowler spent some time in one of our local customer’s very nice collection in Houston. Around 2015 he asked us to help him make some space and this vehicle was one of a few we offered for sale. Another local buyer purchased this “dream car” for her husband as a surprise gift shortly after we listed it online with 9k miles. Over the last 5 years it has only seen apprx 1k additional miles, the common gauge issue has been addressed (very important!), and the rims/tires were upgraded. The couple has enjoyed local driving on nice weekends but have had their fun with the Prowler and are ready for a new classic.
